How to create a Zen decor

After a crazy week of competitions, wedding, party I am ready to calm my mind, body and soul. How nice it would be to come home to a relaxing, soothing, calm and serene space? I cannot think of any other better style to promote these other than a Zen inspired one.

Zen is not some kind of excitement, but concentration on our usual everyday routine. – Shunryu Suzuki There are no definite rules for Zen design,it is a way of arranging your home and creating an atmosphere that offsets the stress and hassle of your daily routine. It is often associated with minimalism, simplicity and clean lines.Zen decor might be the perfect answer to create a calm oasis but to do it without anxiety,or should I say wallet anxiety, in your home,my top tips are :

Go Neutral:

Zen is all about natural colors in soft tones like whites, greys, pinks which induces sense of calmness and relaxation.Everything in the room has to calm the eye and spirit,so avoid flashy colors.

Go for Natural Flooring:

Natural elements like Oak,Wood or stone create a calm and serene effect in a space.Use that in flooring and bring some softness under your feet.Go for white, greyish or any light colored wood or stone.

If you want to use carpets or rugs, go for the ones made of wool or cotton.Cotton will be a good choice as it is lightweight and natural.Woven cotton rugs are durable enough to stand up to the heavy traffic of a kitchen or hallway, but also soft enough for the bedroom, nursery, or family room. They are reversible, affordable and lightweight.

Go for Light Fabrics:

Fabrics also should stick to the same rule of natural, light and comfortable.Whether it’s bedding, drapes or curtains always, opt for natural materials such as cotton, silk.Adding soft colored raw silk fabrics for pillows would be pleasing to the soul and eye.For curtains go for natural textiles such as linen.

Go for Natural Light:

For a fully relaxing space, replace harsh florescent lights with calming, nature-inspired or candle lights. Place different sources of light which will allow you to control the intensity and the areas to be lighted.Choose a lamp with a rice paper shade and plain lines for the perfect accent.

Window covering should be a simple as possible to allow more natural light. Plain white or natural sheers with no ornamentation are perfect. If more privacy is wanted, bamboo blinds will harmonize with all the other natural elements in the room.

Go Clutterfree:

Main aim of Zen spaces is to let go of attachments. So let go of your clutter as they inhibit relaxation.Your space should hold nothing that demands your attention. All you basically need is a clear, calm, empty space to rest your eyes on. You may feel out of place at first, but slowly you’ll start to feel a release of energy as there will be nothing to occupy your senses.
